Education
He completed the undergraduate studies in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Postgraduate studies (MSc) in Loughborough University (U.K.) and Ph.D in Democritus University of Thrace, Komotini, Greece.
Academic positions
He was assisting stuff member in Democritus University of Thrace (2003 to 2009). He was elected as a Lecturer in September 2009 as Assistant Professor in October 2014 and as an Associate professor (September 2019) in the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Other activities
He is a founding member and president (2018-2020) of the Greek Association of Biochemistry and Physiology of Exercise. From July 2015 to March 2021 he was a member of the administrative board of the Greek National Anti-Doping Organization.
Research interests
His research interests are related to the physiological responses during swimming training and competition. Specific research topics include: i) physiological responses and training adaptations related to exercise intensities around the critical speed in various age-groups of athletes, ii) acute and long term effect of resistance exercise training in swimming performance, iii) respiratory methods inducing hypoxemic stimulus during swimming training. He has published more than 70 scientific papers in international and Greek journals.
